Does your family like to tell favorite stories? Maybe the stories are from a favorite book, or they’re special memories told again and again. Sometimes made-up stories are just as special. Here’s a simple story that I wrote along with a fun way I found to illustrate it.
On a cold, winter night, Suzy sighed deep and long. “I wish it would snow so I could go sledding,” she said.
“Well,” said her mommy, “if it snows, your daddy might not make it back from his trip tonight.”
Suzy didn’t know what to say. She loved her daddy so much, but it was also fun playing in the snow.
When she went to bed later that night, Suzy prayed, “God, please help my daddy to come home tonight. I’d really like to see him tomorrow since he’s been gone a long time on his work trip. And please let it snow soon—but not too soon—so he and I can go sledding. Amen.”
The next morning, Suzy woke up to the smell of bacon cooking in the kitchen. Daddy must be home she thought and rushed out of her room.
“Good morning, Princess,” said Daddy. “Would you like to know what my special plans are for today?” He smiled at her and pointed to the window.
Suzy ran to the window and looked outside. “Sledding!” she shouted. And that’s exactly what they did.
THE END
Make tonight a story night for your family and watch your kids’ creativity (and yours too) come to life! Plus, it’s a great way for them to practice sharing the greatest story ever told.
